Spikenard has a very warm, woody, heavy scent that is very unique with somewhat resinous and pungent tones. Alone, it is something to grow to love, but it is fantastic in blends (as frankincense or patchouli is used) to add an eastern flair. Used throughout history, Jerusalem, Egypt, Greece and the middle east in many of their most famous perfumes, spikenard is most known from the New Testament where Mary Magdalene is said to have used it to anoint Christ's feet.
