   The use of incense in spiritual practices dates back to pre-history. Traditionally, incense was employed to purify the spirit and bring a magical focus. Shaman, witches, priestesses and holy people of every culture know that smoke from incense will carry their petitions to the spirit world and returns quickly with divine answers.

   Incense is a medium that can be used to communicate the essence of magic. To make incense, one must apply all elements. By incense you master the Element of Air, by Oil you rule Fire, by aspersion you govern Water and by Powder you assume to master Earth.

 

   These four Masteries complete the Initiation and make you a ruler of both the active and passive natures of the Great All.

   Always use caution when handling lit incense. Never leave burning incense of any kind unattended. ALWAYS place your incense securely in an appropriate holder designed specifically for the type of incense you are burning and place the burner on a surface that is flame-resistant and heat-resistant. Keep all types of incense away from children and pets.

   To light stick incense: When lighting stick incense, be sure to hold the incense by the bare end and away from your face and hair. After igniting, gently blow out the flame.

   To extinguish stick incense: Place the burning end under running water, or into clean sand.
